Federer Augenoptik Buchs – Architecture for a Sharper Vision

The renovation and expansion of Federer Augenoptik, a specialist optical store in Buchs, has resulted in a project that masterfully combines functionality and symbolism. The architectural interventions aimed to optimize existing spaces while preparing the premises for future growth.

At the core of the new spatial concept lies a circular service hub, strategically positioned at the heart of the floor plan. This central element is surrounded by ceiling-integrated light panels that display the image of an oversized iris. The result is a striking light installation that transforms the ceiling into an abstract, luminous eye—giving the space a bold and memorable visual identity.

In addition to this design innovation, the store has embraced cutting-edge technology. A newly developed stocking robot enhances inventory management and supports a pick-up station installed outside the building. This allows customers convenient access to their products—even outside regular opening hours. A visionary service designed to make everyday life easier.

Upstairs, the layout is clearly structured and highly functional, housing the workshop, offices, staff facilities, and sanitary areas.

With this extension, Federer Augenoptik positions itself not only spatially, but also in terms of design and technology, as a pioneer within the optical industry—an architectural project that redefines how vision and experience are brought together.
